Costs a tenant will incur when letting
There are lots of costs you may incur before you can move into your new home and when you are living in it.
The main rental costs you should expect to incur are:
- Reservation fee for the property you want to rent
- Application or administration fee to the landlord or letting agent
- Credit checks and referencing (This might be included in your administration or application fee)
- Inventory fee (Usually done on moving in and out, so you pay for one and the landlord the other)
- Deposit (Usually 4-6 weeks of the rental costs)
Make sure that you ask and keep receipts for any payments you make to a landlord and/or letting agent.
Depending on how the property is let, you will normally be responsible for paying the following bills on an ongoing basis. Please do check this with the landlord or letting agent and make sure you have in writing who pays for what.
On-going rental costs could include:
- Gas and Electricity
- Telephone and Broadband
- TV Licence
- Water Rates/Meter
- Council Tax
- Any service charges
